I'm going to risk sounding like an idiot by calling this Early Wave New Wave. I apologise fully for creating such a phrase but Austin's A Sky Jet Black do sound like they could easily be opening for Bowie in 1981 or something.
This whole throwback thing is so hard to get right, especially the whole early 80s synth-heavy stuff , but I think the below track (which, by the way is my favourite from the album) proves they do it pretty well:
