Songs of 2012: Part 1

I know you probably all have these end of year lists coming out your ears by now, but I'm quite a fan of the whole list format & thought I'd share with you 20 songs from 2012 that I don't think I'll ever forget.  The whole numerical thing was too much for me so they're not in any particular order, it's more my idea of a perfect playlist than anything. Listen to part 1 below, thoughts appreciated :

Lemonade

Not long ago Blood Diamonds and Grimes put out the highly addictive track Phone Sex - I've listened to this every single day for the past month, in fact I've played it so much that I'm probably about to completely kill it and in a couple of days I will never want to hear it again. Obviously I don't want this to happen so Lemonade's take on the track makes for a refreshing change. It's slowed down to the point where everything feels a bit more sensual and a little more emotive as Grimes' voice lingers, things are just a little bit calmer and it's a good feeling.

Membrain

Claire Boucher (Grimes)is collaborating with fellow Canadian Tim Lafontaine (Cop Car Bonfire); a pretty well-known busker on the streets on Montreal, they've got a project called Membrain which the pair are due to release their first EP 'Sit Back, Rewind' under later this year. Listening to their preview tracks it's pretty obvious we're going to be in for a treat; further demonstrating Claire's ability to make and produce amazing instrumental music whilst making me wish Cop Car Bonfire would come and busk around the UK for a bit. You can preview and download several of their tracks via Soundcloud:

Grimes

Isn't she the cutest? I didn't really get into Grimes until I heard Vanessa but ever since I've pretty much been hooked. Anyway, here's the video to her new single 'Oblivion' - a bouncy little electro-pop number which features lots of shirtless men and sports stadiums.
