Lower Spectrum
Lower Spectrum has teamed up with label Feral Media for the 4th & final instalment of their Seasons EP series. For me, Fall is a fantastic introduction to the Melbourne based producer - beautifully arranged, energetic & above all interesting - fans of Four Tet, Caribou etc. will love this one too.
Quiet Sun
UK producer and construer of ambience Quiet Sun released a new album last week. All in all it's a very pretty album, featuring a lot of delicious sounds which loop, swirl and embed themselves into the happiest and calmest corners of your mind. Sitting somewhere between Evenings and one of the more ambient faces of Four Tet, I'd definitely recommend you give The Fields of Sleep a listen. ILNL's tracks of 2013 :: Part 2
Following on from the first batch last week, here's the second and final instalment of my tracks of 2013. Every single track on this list contributed towards making this year the best one yet, see you in 2014 everybody:
X¥Z
North Londoner X¥Z recently dropped his Solace EP, 20 minutes of atmospheric, blissed out electronic music inspired by the likes of J Dilla & Four Tet which is consistently good from start to finish. I think this is the first time in a long time where I've struggled picking my favourite cuts to feature, so I thouroughly recommend heading over to Bandcamp and stream this thing from back to front.
Quiet Sun
The occassional Soundcloud trundle can uncover the most ridiculously talented producers. This track from UK producer Quiet Sun can really only be described as perfect. Breathing Space is sort of reminiscent of earlier Four Tet and Gold Panda - with a similar sense of craft and atmosphere - I think fitting somewhere nicely between the two. If this sounds like your kind of thing take a listen below:
Four Tet & Burial
Burial + Four Tet have paired up for their third collaboration, for me this is pretty much a wonder-collaboration, the marrying of musical royalty. It's only been around for 20 hours and it's already got well over 130000 plays on Soundcloud - unbelievable. Nova is unsurprisingly dense, floating vocal samples and rippling atmospherics make way for a beautiful keyboard riff half about 90 secs in. The interaction between the sounds is compelling,the track works well in combining the two artists unique sounds - playing off one another to create a track in which neither artist can be said to have a greater influence. Perfect listening for a dreary Monday, stream below:
Thom Yorke
A couple of weeks ago, the Radiohead frontman put out a remix for xfm - now I don't really rate Radiohead, and I think Thom's a bit of a twat. But, when I heard this mix, my mind was blown, and I instantly gained mountains of respect for Thom once again. He's done some stuff with Burial & Four Tet earlier in the year which was also amazing, but it sounded more like Burial than anything else. So here I present to you 'Twist', something which is completely different to 'The Eraser' or anything else Thom has churned out in the past. It's so refreshing to hear, in the sense that you become extremely aware of how talented this man really is. The song itself is extremely bassy, and (luckily) there isn't any attempt made to steal the track with his voice at all, instead; the voice is sampled and cut down as nothing more than a sound effect. Bo Bo & Rosca's remix of Modeselektors 'Art & Cash' also features heavily towards the end, but I don't think this takes anything away from the genius of the whole track. Well done Thom. Thom Yorke - Twist
Juk Juk
Juk Juk is London-based Caleb Waterman, and he's signed to Text - Four Tet's label. Listening to Juk Juk, it's easy to see why Kieran (Four Tet) fell for his sounds, what with the clever sample deconstruction and wavy vibes. So Four Tet lovers will undoubtedly appreciate this too. Winter Turn Spring will be released exclusively on vinyl, so get down to a decent record store on September 12th and buy it - even if you don't own a record player. For now though, you can stream it; and some other wonderful tracks here:

Batty Knee Dance
For those of you who aren't familiar, I'm from Manchester (UK), and so is The Warehouse Project. It's been going since 2006 and is what can only be described as a 3 month orgie of great music. In it's time it's seen the likes of Hot Chip, Deadmau5 & M.I.A pass through it's doors.
This year will be the last at it's founding venue, Store St. So it's going to be absolutely huge. WHP posted the following on their site:
"After five incredible years beneath the streets, the last ever Warehouse Project event at Store Street will finish in the early hours of January 2, 2012. Within 48hrs all evidence that WHP ever existed in that space will be gone, nothing remaining to give any indication that hundreds of thousands of people passed through those doors.
The idea was always to keep things fresh. While The Warehouse Project certainly found its first proper home in this venue, it feels like when the curtain comes down on the 2011 series it will be time to shake things up again. Exactly how, where and when the WHP will return is not yet set, but one thing for sure is that this is The End of Store Street.
This last party will take the form of a seventeen-hour marathon taking us into 2012.
