Darkside

Dave Harrington's hour long mix for Modular hit the internet today (which you can grab here), it opens with this stunning Nick Drake cover he put together under his now infamous pairing with Nicolas JaarDarkside. Featuring vocals from Tamara , it's an eerily mesmerising cover of the Pink Moon classic.

Tears & Marble

Here's a cover of Haddaway's What is Love to help you all wallow in those post-holiday blues from a brand new Dutch band called Tears & Marble (look out for the upcoming EP in Jan). So get a glass of gin in one hand, a mince pie in the other and take a listen below:

Toby Gale

This Toby Gale remix of Peter Lyons' Rui da Silva cover is pretty special. Think Nicolas Jaar x Flako and you have yourself a pretty irresistable jam. Give it a listen right here:

Doprah

This is such an amazing cover of Arctic Monkey's Do I Wanna Know. I understand that the opening sentence of this post may well put many people off but trust me; this Doprah cover oozes chill and is more than worth a listen.

Dems

Toca's Miracle is  probably one of the best songs from the turn of the millenia, and is way up there as one of my favourite songs from childhood. London's Dems have covered Fragma's crowd pleaser/dancefloor filler, stripped it down and revealed something far more lonely. It bloody works too, listen & download below:

Julia Losfelt

The supremely talented Julia Losfelt returns with this cover of You Took Your Time, which is taken from the new Mount Kimbie Album. I'm pretty sure she breaks hearts with that voice, listen and download below:

MAUSI

However I phrase this, I'm not going to make this track sound anywhere near as good as it actually is. Basically, MAUSI have recorded this Knowles inspired hybrid-cover of Losing You and Say My Name, and it turns out it's actually pretty incredible. It's summery, it's uplifting, it just works. Take a listen below:

Sleep ∞ Over

Much to my relief, Stefanie Franciotti reappeared as Sleep ∞ Over with a new single today. 'Rooftop' dips deep into the unconcious, unlocking the unfamiliar and the beautiful - ultimate Alice-style fantasy.  The accompanying b-side is a beautiful cover of Vashti Bunyan's I Want to Be Alone, stream below:

Mt. Wolf

I don't ever post covers on here, but this one is kind of special. Mt. Wolf have taken Usher's Climax and turned it into something heartbreakingly beautiful. Usher's original was pretty sad and bawl-y, but I think he peaked around yeah , so I'm perfectly justified in thinking that on this occasion the cover has completely outshone the original. Sorry to any Usher fans out there, but if you're prepared to shed a tear or two then stream Mt. Wolf's version below:

Gang Colours

Gang Colours covers Craig David's Fill Me In, transforming millenium-era, chart topping 2-Step/Garage into this perfect little number:

Vondelpark

A word of warning, expect there to be many, many Vondelpark related posts in the near future as the R&S based act is soon to release their first full-length LP. I'm completely in love with this project, and if you haven't yet heard the NYC Stuff & NYC Bags EP or the Sauna EP then I'd highly recommend you do because I can't emphasise enough how good they actually are. So I'm glad that this post has finally given me the excuse to feature one of my favourite songs of all time:

Wow I've never done a double video post before, but finding this more recent cover of that chorus Nate Dogg sings in that 50 Cent song was actually the whole reason for this post:

:papercutz cover The Cure

papercutz have covered The Cure's 'Disintegration' ('89), a great song by a legendary band. The Cure go down in the UK as one of the greatest indie bands ever to have graced the airwaves.

I like papercutz, but most of the time I don't like covers. although, I was really surprised to find myself actually really liking this effort. It doesn't ruin the original for one, in fact, the bands style actually compliments and maintains the atmosphere of the original song really well. It's one of those covers which is clever enough to have something original about it, it's nice dream-pop; and the delicate vocals especially manage to capture the song's style as well as the bands own creativity. You can listen to AND download it here. Well done papercutz:
